CLOAK
New England Mid 19th c.

Wonderful full length lady's cloak, in natural dyed black of plain tabby weave woolen fabric. The cloak has a short cape over the shoulder and a hood. Interior of hood is lined with black silk, and brown linen lining on the interior of the arm slits, which frees hands while the center front remains closed for warmth. The neckline of the cloak body is gathered and also the back of the hood at the crown. Body of cloak was never lined. Construction with hand stitching of lapped and top stitched seams. Edges are machine stitched. Overall very good as descended condition. A few wear minor wear holes, wear to silk lining at top of cloak, one silk ribbon missing. A rare find for this condition and color of early fabric. Found in New Hampshire, c. 1840 – 60.
