CLAY PIPES
English 18th - early 19th c

Five rare colonial clay pipes found in the Thames, very good undisturbed condition. Longest pipe - 5 3/4 in. Clay pipes were common in Revolutionary War camps, As tars accumulated at the mouth of the stem, this was broken off to remove unpleasant taste. Thus pipes became steadily shorter until they could no longer be used. Rare survivors as used in early America.

Length: 5 1/4 - 3 1/4 inches.
